Aleksandr Fedorovich Borisov was born on May 1, 1905, in St. Petersburg, Russia, to a father who worked in industry. As a youth, Borisov enjoyed theatre and took part in his school's drama club. In 1927, he graduated from Yuri Yuryev's class at the Leningrad Theatre-Studio.
Borisov also had an outstanding career as a stage actor. From 1928 to 1982, he was a permanent member of the Pushkin Drama Theatre troupe in Leningrad (now St. Petersburg). His stage colleagues included distinguished actors such as Yekaterina Korchagina-Aleksandrovskaya, Nikolay Cherkasov, Yuri Yuryev, Boris Babochkin, Nikolai Simonov, Vasiliy Merkurev, Konstantin Skorobogatov, Yuriy Tolubeev, Illarion Pevtsov, Bruno Frejndlikh, Vladimir Chestnokov, Vladimir Erenberg, Leonid Vivyen, Konstantin Adashevsky, Igor Gorbachyov, Olga Lebzak, Nina Mamaeva, Lidiya Shtykan, Nina Urgant, Valentina Panina, among other prominent Russian actors.
Aleksandr Borisov received the USSR State Prize three times: in 1947 for his stage performances, in 1949 for the leading role in the film 'Akademic Ivan Pavlov,' and in 1950 for his leading role in the film 'Mussorgsky.' He was honored as People's Artist of the USSR in 1951 and named Hero of Socialist Labor in 1981. Borisov passed away on May 19, 1982, in St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), Russia, and was buried at the Necropolis of Masters of Arts "Literatirskie Mostki" in Volkovskoe Cemetery, St. Petersburg.
