William Wedig, born in 1983 in Marietta, Ohio, earned a BFA in film from the School of Visual Arts in New York City. His work has been showcased in theaters, on television, and digitally through platforms like Vice, Time, and Sports Illustrated, as well as at festivals including Sundance and TIFF.
Having contributed to over a dozen feature films with the Crook Brothers and directed and edited two of his own, Wedig’s feature film "Forged," which he wrote, directed, and edited, won Best Film at the HBO Latino Film Festival in 2011 and received the Outstanding Film Award at the Providence Latin America Film Festival. This action-drama stars Manny Perez (Bull, Homeland, Pride and Glory) and three-time Emmy winner Margo Martindale (The Americans, August: Osage County). David Goldstein of The New York Times commented, "Mr. Wedig is sure of his material. Relentlessly unsentimental, 'Forged' is nasty, brutish and short, in all the best ways."
His most recent short film, Bygones, earned Best Comedy Short Film at the 2019 Coney Island Film Festival. Additionally, his screenplay, The Devil's Chasing Me, co-written with Zach Brown, Brian Cange, and Marcus Hanh, was a semi-finalist in the 2020 Final Draft Big Break Screenplay contest.
Wedig also found success with his half-live-action, half-animated series "Team Toon," directing 24 of the 26 half-hour episodes and serving as scene director on the remaining two. Produced by Crook Brothers Productions as a collaboration between Cartoon Network and FremantleMedia, "Team Toon" premiered on Amazon Prime (UK) and was available on Netflix. The show stars Disney/ABC actress Meg Donnelly, known for her roles in "Zombies!" and "American Housewife."
Recently, Wedig co-wrote the feature screenplay "Evergreen," which was selected for the IFP-hosted Filmshop event "The Breakthrough Series" in Brooklyn, New York. He collaborated on this project with his longtime writing partner, BAFTA-nominated Jeff Wolverton, whose film "The Chubbchubbs" won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short.
Wedig directed the feature film "Rise of the Dead," distributed by Lions Gate Home Entertainment, co-directed the TV special "Exposure: Sports Illustrated Swimsuit," featuring Kate Upton, Irina Shayk, and numerous other supermodels, and served as a series director on the music program "Noisemakers On Noisevox," hosted by renowned music journalist and former MTV VJ John Norris. On "Noisemakers," Wedig directed bands such as Warpaint ("Elephants") and The Temper Trap ("Sweet Disposition") and oversaw interviews with nearly a hundred artists, including Lady Gaga and Moby.
Currently bi-coastal, Wedig divides his time between Brooklyn and Los Angeles, where he lives with his wife, fashion stylist and casting director Alicia Santana (www.aiiciaa.com).
