Bandita Bora is an independent writer-director and screenwriter from Guwahati, Assam, known for her emotionally driven storytelling and strong visual sensibility. With a foundational degree in Mass Media from St. Anthony's College, Shillong, her career in filmmaking began with an internship at Spectral India Media Management, Delhi, where she contributed to short-format content, including TV ads and music albums, especially for Punjabi channels. Her creative journey soon expanded to Bangalore, where she assisted on regional Tamil and Kannada projects, enhancing her understanding of diverse cinematic languages and cultural contexts. In Mumbai, Bandita immersed herself in the heart of the Indian film industry. She has assisted on over 200 television commercials and 10 feature films, including Jogira Sara Ra Ra (dir. Kushan Nandy), Chhorii 2 (dir. Vishal Furia), and the acclaimed docu-film Lords of Lockdown, presented by Anurag Kashyap and directed by Mihir Fadnavis. These experiences gave her an in-depth understanding of varied genres, production scales, and the collaborative spirit of filmmaking. Since 2018, she has independently directed and written a range of audiovisual content-TV commercials, digital ads, UGC content, music videos, mini web series, corporate films, event videos, celebrity reels, documentaries, and short films. Her storytelling is rooted in realism and guided by a nuanced emotional core, often reflecting her Assamese heritage and the broader cultural fabric of India. Her short films-Two Answers, Ghungroo, The Learner, The Perfect Smile, Smell of a Soul, and Zebra Crossing-have been noted for their intimate narratives and visual aesthetics. She has directed a Music video album sung by Nakash Aziz for Zee Music. Bandita has worked alongside industry veterans such as Vishal Furia, Kushan Nandy, Pradeep Verma, Vinay Jaiswal, and Sandip Chatterjee. Her artistic roots trace back to childhood, shaped by her mother, a theatre artist and writer. Under her mentorship, Bandita acted in over 15 Assamese plays and several productions in Hindi and English, laying the groundwork for her deep love for performance and storytelling. Her personal mantra-"Art is within you"-continues to guide her creative pursuits as she works to amplify underrepresented voices and regional stories through a cinematic lens that is both bold and empathetic.
