Bryan Ferry, the son of a coal miner, developed his musical talents while studying art at the University of Newcastle. In 1971, he formed Roxy Music with, among others, composer and synthesizer player Brian Eno, who departed in 1973. Ferry served as Roxy's lead vocalist until the band dissolved in 1983. As Eno was leaving, Ferry released his debut solo album, "These Foolish Things," which showcased a different style from his work with Roxy Music: while the band embraced Glam Rock, Ferry's solo work featured a smooth crooning approach. Over time, Roxy Music's evolution revealed that Ferry's band and solo careers were intertwined. Though Roxy enjoyed significant popularity in the UK, their impact in the US was limited, with their best-known hits there being "Love Is the Drug" (1975), "Avalon," and "More Than This" (both 1982). Following Roxy Music's breakup, Ferry focused on his solo career, releasing five albums post-Roxy, maintaining the crooning style that became his signature. His most notable solo hits include "Don't Stop The Dance" (1985) and "Kiss and Tell" (1988), the latter featured in the film Bright Lights, Big City (1988). Ferry's solo albums feature both original compositions (Boys & Girls, Bête Noire, Mamouna) and covers (These Foolish Things, Taxi, and As Time Goes By, his most recent release).
