Lemuel Firth Amero, born on September 24, 1937, in Gloucester, Massachusetts, was a director, writer, producer, actor, and editor. His father, John, worked as a fisherman, and his mother, Gladys, was a housewife. After graduating from Gloucester High School in 1955, Lem relocated to New York City, where he worked as a stage manager at several nightclubs, including the Bal Tabarin on West 46th Street. He also spent several seasons acting and stage managing summer stock productions at the Lake George Playhouse in upstate New York. Lem appeared in his first soft-core film in 1964. In the mid-1960s, Lem and his younger brother, John Amero, established their own production company, Amero Brothers. Initially producing soft-core films, the brothers transitioned to more explicit hardcore movies in the early 1970s and continued creating X-rated films until the mid-1980s. Lem passed away in New York on August 5, 1989, at the age of 51, due to an AIDS-related illness.
