Vanessa began her career in Educational theatre before earning a Bilingual Performers Diploma from the University of Cape Town in 1991. In 1994, she landed the supporting role of "Lesley" in the action thriller "Never Say Die." Her breakthrough came when she was cast as the lead heroine "Sherry Ouelette," the long-suffering niece of villain "William Gartley" (played by Robert Englund), in the Stephen King thriller "The Mangler."
Following her lead role as Sherry Ouelette in "The Mangler," Vanessa won the 1994 M-NET All Africa Film Award for Best Actress.
Vanessa continued to appear in various television roles, mainly on South African television. Most of these were dramas, including "Triptiek" (1993), "Tarzan - The Epic Adventures" (1996), "Kelebone," "Justice for All" (1998), "Arsenal" (2004), and "The Res" (2004).
She also performed in theatre, taking on diverse roles in musicals such as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," "Girl Talk" (which included a performance in Malaysia for the King), "Fiddler on the Roof," and "Situation Comedy," as well as pantomimes like "Sleeping Beauty" and "Aladdin."
In 2005, Vanessa was cast in the South African made-for-television mini-series "To the Ends of the Earth," filmed in Richards Bay, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. More recently, she appeared in a guest role on the 2006 television series "Wild at Heart" (Season 5, Episode 5, aired February 7, 2010).
She currently resides in Johannesburg, South Africa.
