Mishon (pronounced MY-shawn) is a young singer and emerging songwriter who embodies the new wave of pop R&B infused with hip-hop energy.
At just 16 years old, the Los Angeles native has already made waves with his single "Just A Kiss," showcasing his impressive vocal range and youthful charisma. Co-produced by the Interns and Harvey Mason, the track became the most added song on urban radio as of June 2, 2009. This success is only the beginning, as Mishon prepares to release his debut album this fall on Streamline Records, a new label founded by producer/songwriter Vincent Herbert in partnership with Interscope Records.
Mishon is also known for his acting role as Tay, the spirited younger brother on ABC Family Channel’s drama "Lincoln Heights," which began filming its fourth season this spring. Despite building a fan base through acting, Mishon reveals that singing has always been his true passion.
Having sung since early childhood, Mishon's musical talent impressed his parents, who enrolled him in a local performing group of gifted children that performed around Southern California. His breakthrough moment came at age nine when he chose to sing "Lean On Me" at his great-grandfather’s funeral, moving everyone with his heartfelt performance. "They asked if anyone wanted to say something, and I stepped up to the microphone and started singing," Mishon recalls. "That was the moment I really came out of my shell because I used to be very shy."
His cousin, Demetreus "Doe Mac" Henderson, founder of Dynasty Records, noticed his potential and began helping him develop his talent. By age ten, Mishon was recording tracks with his cousin and had released a couple of independent CDs. Meanwhile, Mishon pursued acting, auditioning at age 12, taking a break, and returning at 14, landing a role in the "Lincoln Heights" pilot, which was later picked up for series.
Music remained a constant for Mishon as he continued refining his skills and recording songs for his solo album. When Dynasty secured a distribution deal with Streamline Records, home to artists like Lady Gaga, Mishon performed live at the label’s Santa Monica offices. Vincent Herbert, a hitmaker behind artists such as Destiny's Child, Lady Gaga, Jo Jo, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder, was so impressed that he introduced Mishon to Jimmy Iovine, president and CEO of Interscope Geffen A&M Records, launching plans for his major label debut.
