Stan Foster launched his diverse career as an actor, starring for three seasons in the Emmy-winning CBS drama "Tour of Duty." He then transitioned behind the camera, securing an overall development deal with Columbia Pictures Television to write, produce, and create new content. This opportunity led him to sell and develop sitcoms, dramas, and reality shows for numerous networks including CBS, FOX, MTV, Comedy Central, USA Networks, UPN, Disney, Discovery Channel, and FremantleMedia.
Foster adapted TD Jakes' stage production "Woman Thou Art Loosed" for the big screen, earning an NAACP Image Award and significantly boosting the genre's popularity. As a writer-producer in feature films, he wrote, produced, and directed projects for Universal ("Hoodrat"), 20th Century Fox ("Hangman's Curse"), Lions Gate ("Manhood"), Warner Bros. ("Preacher's Kid"), as well as "Car Wash 2" (Universal) and "My Other Mother" (UPtv).
In 2014, Foster directed "My Other Mother" for Uplifting Entertainment and helmed the pilot episode of Comedy Central's series "In The Cut." He also wrote and directed an independent film titled "Azusa Street Revival," centered on the historic Azusa Street Revival.
In 2017, he produced the gospel musical "PK Resurrection," which launched "Upstaged," a collection of classic urban films adapted for the stage, featuring live television broadcasts followed by a national tour.
In 2018, Stan Foster Media partnered with Lionsgate to produce and distribute a slate of films under his banner, including "Azusa Street Revival," "Bishop Mims," "Before I Forget - The B Smith Story," and the "Upstaged" live theater series. The company holds a multi-picture output, distribution, and acquisition deal with Lionsgate.
In 2021, Foster directed an episode of "Step Up Highwater" for the STARZ streaming service.
