Shawn-Caulin Young, a product of America's hardworking middle class, is an American actor, writer, director, and producer. Born on March 22 in the small town of Lamar, Colorado, to their father Jim, a jockey and racehorse trainer, and their mother Julie, Shawn is the youngest of four siblings. They were raised on the desert outskirts of the Navajo Nation, in the reservation border town of Farmington, New Mexico. Their heritage includes Irish, English, Norwegian, and Swedish roots.
After discovering a passion for storytelling in high school, Shawn-Caulin earned a BFA in Acting from the prestigious Hartt School (UHA) performing arts conservatory. Following classical training in England and graduating with top honors from Hartt, Shawn moved to New York City to begin their career in film and television.
They were "discovered" by Burrows/Boland Casting and director Robert Zemeckis during the casting for a planned live-action adaptation of the Beatles' cartoon The Yellow Submarine. Zemeckis selected Shawn as the second choice after Cary Elwes from an international talent pool to portray Beatles guitarist George Harrison. Since then, Shawn has appeared in numerous film, television, and theater productions worldwide. An experienced horseman, stuntman, and athlete, Young is widely respected for their ability to physically transform and "disappear" into other characters.
Now an acclaimed writer, Shawn-Caulin was chosen from 3,600 applicants for the 2022 Screencraft Fellowship, recognized for their screenwriting talent. Drawing inspiration from a childhood spent among cowboys and Indigenous communities, Young writes from the perspective of the working poor, blending genres with magical realism to tell untold stories of the Southwest and beyond.
