Nell, a native Texan, attended Houston's High School for the Performing and Visual Arts before graduating from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. While at NYU, she was cast in the original production of Memphis, which won the Tony Award for Best Musical. In 2008, Nell founded Harmon Creek Press and published her first book, Celia and the Witches, through Barnes and Noble. Later that year, she relocated to Los Angeles and, in 2010, worked with Center Theatre Group on the original production of Randy Newman's Harps and Angels. From 2011 to 2012, Nell was a company member and then Director of Development at Celebration Theatre. In 2012, encouraged by a friend, she directed her first staged production and a mini-documentary titled If I Look This Good, Why Do I Feel Like Shit. The following year, she wrote, directed, and produced three short films. Currently, Nell collaborates with FILM 14, having directed over twenty book trailers for the company. In 2014, she directed and choreographed the original musical Rock and Roll's Greatest Lovers at The Lillian Theatre. In 2015, Nell produced the film Upended, directed by Tessa Blake and starring Amy Landecker. That summer, she directed the original one-woman show StandUpera at The Actor's Theatre. In February 2016, she adapted and directed a short film based on Frederic Donner's story, LOVE. Nell is directing two stage productions: All Shook Up at the Morgan Wixson Theatre, opening March 5th, and Anton in Show Business at The Hudson Theatre, opening April 9th. At the end of April, she will speak on the use of visceral imagery on stage and in film at The Science of Consciousness Convention at The University of Tucson. In June, Nell will direct the short film Kindred in Hollywood.
