Özgü Namal, one of Turkey's most acclaimed actresses, was born in Istanbul.
She graduated from Istanbul University State Conservatory's Theatre Department in 2002. Throughout her career, she has earned widespread recognition and numerous awards for her compelling performances in film, theatre, and television. Through the powerful roles she has portrayed, Özgü Namal has become an inspiration for women both in Turkey and internationally.
From the start of her acting journey, Özgü Namal has distinguished herself as a leading actress with a strong presence in both cinema and television. Her filmography includes notable performances in acclaimed films such as Istanbul Tales (Anlat İstanbul), The International (Beynelmilel), Police (Polis), The Son of the Sun (Güneşin Oğlu), and Bliss (Mutluluk), all celebrated for their artistic merit and critical success.
On television, she has engaged audiences with memorable roles in popular series such as Seven Hills Istanbul (Yeditepe İstanbul), Valley of the Wolves (Kurtlar Vadisi), The Dark Red (Koyu Kırmızı), Lady’s Farm (Hanımın Çiftliği), Compassion (Merhamet), and most recently, the hit drama Crimson Buds (Kızıl Goncalar).
In 2005, Özgü Namal received the Best Actress in a Musical Comedy award from both the Afife Theatre Awards and Sadri Alışık Theatre Awards for her exceptional performance in the play Rental Play (Kiralık Oyun).
Her cinematic achievements continued in 2007 when she won the Best Actress Award at the prestigious Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival for Bliss (Mutluluk), and also at the Istanbul International Film Festival for The International (Beynelmilel). Additionally, Özgü Namal has been honored with Best Actress awards at numerous esteemed international and national festivals, including the Pune International Film Festival, Funchal International Film Festival, Oxford Film Festival, as well as the Antalya Golden Orange, Istanbul Film Festival, and Yeşilçam Awards.
Özgü Namal has also been the prominent face of several leading national brands such as Akbank Axess and Hayat Kimya Bingo.
She played the lead role in Yellow Envelopes (Sarı Zarflar), directed by Oscar-nominated director İlker Çatak, known for his previous film Teachers’ Room (Öğretmenler Odası), which was filmed in Berlin and Hamburg (2024).
