Dylan is an internationally recognized filmmaker with Indian and Canadian roots. His documentary feature, Fire in the Blood, debuted in competition at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and achieved the longest theatrical run for any non-fiction film in Indian cinema history, lasting five weeks. The film was officially selected at over 100 top film festivals across six continents and received numerous prestigious awards and honors worldwide. Fire in the Blood influenced the global dialogue on access to essential medicines and was named by renowned Australian journalist and documentarian John Pilger in November 2018 as one of "26 landmark documentary films of the past seven decades." Critics have praised Dylan's work, with The Dallas Morning News noting that "Dylan Mohan Gray has made cinematic provocation something of a signature," and The Village Voice & LA Weekly highlighting that "Gray's images are exquisite and unsparing... artful in nearly every frame, perhaps so we don't avert our eyes." Early in his career, Dylan held key creative roles on feature films in over 24 countries, collaborating closely with acclaimed directors such as Fatih Akin, Peter Greenaway, Paul Greengrass, Deepa Mehta, and Mira Nair. He has been featured by major media outlets including the BBC, The Guardian, The Times of India, Filmmaker Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. His 2019 film From Durban to Tomorrow was selected for the 2020 Mumbai International Film Festival. Filmed across five countries on three continents, it explores the future of global health and human rights. Additionally, his narrative feature script, The Last Day of Winter (co-written with Vikramaditya Motwane), was developed at the Sundance Institute / Mumbai Mantra Screenwriting Lab. In 2017, Dylan was appointed Visiting Professor of History at Central European University in Budapest, examining the intersections of history and film, and in 2016 he received CEU's inaugural Alumni Impact Award, chosen from over 13,000 graduates. Most recently, he directed the premiere episode of the critically acclaimed Netflix anthology series Bad Boy Billionaires, focusing on Vijay Mallya. Dylan is currently working on developing several feature film and series projects.
