Matthew Avant is an American writer, director, editor, and producer with nearly 30 years of experience in television, documentary, and independent film. Growing up in the deep South with a camera, Avant gained recognition with Lunopolis (2010), a micro-budget found-footage sci-fi film that won multiple festival awards, screened internationally, and achieved cult status for its intricate world-building and conspiracy-driven narrative.
For more than a decade, Avant contributed to rural and western lifestyle television, creating hundreds of hours of content for RFD-TV and The Cowboy Channel. His work includes Dude Ranch Roundup, RanchHer, The Rural Americans, and a reboot of the classic Wild Kingdom series.
As a producer, Avant has received a Suncoast Emmy, multiple Telly, Aurora, and Videographer Awards. He has also been honored by Cynopsis (2024 Best of the Best Lifestyle Series) and Hermes Awards for storytelling and craftsmanship. His genre screenplays—spanning gothic westerns, science fiction, and existential horror—have earned accolades from Cinequest, Slamdance, BlueCat, Script Awards LA, and others. Avant’s filmmaking has garnered festival awards for Best Screenplay, Best Feature, and Best Director, with Lunopolis screening at festivals on six continents.
Bridging grounded documentary and imaginative genre fiction, Avant’s work often combines emotional depth with speculative themes. He founded Media Savant LLC, a Nashville-based production company, and continues to develop feature and television projects that explore history, mystery, and the human experience.
