Anya began her career working under Tim Bevan at Working Title Films, producing music videos for directors such as Nic Roeg, Mike Newell, and Derek Jarman, among others. Sponsored by the BBC Drama Director's course, she made her Channel 4 debut directing the drama EYE CONTACT, featuring Jason Isaacs. She subsequently directed numerous episodes of prime-time drama and the BBC TV movie TWO GOLDEN BALLS, starring Kim Cattrall and Leslie Phillips.
She then co-created and served as lead director for the acclaimed ITV series LIVERPOOL 1, which led the autumn schedule for two seasons. Following this, Anya co-created and was lead director of the Channel 4 drama NY-LON, a seven-hour transatlantic love story set in London and New York, starring Rashida Jones.
Her short film PERFECT, starring Stephen Moyer as a neurotic estate agent who embarks on a killing spree, was selected for international festivals such as Karlovy Vary FF, BFI London FF, and London FF. Another short, JEALOUSY, starring Paul Nicholls, premiered at the Palm Springs FF, Austen FF, and London FF.
A GIRL OF NO IMPORTANCE, filmed in medieval Rome and centered on sex trafficking, has garnered numerous international festival awards, including Best Director and Best Writer.
Anya directed MOVING ON, a series of daytime plays set in contemporary Britain created by Jimmy McGovern for the BBC, and CLINK, an original drama series set in a female prison for Channel 5. Recently, she co-created an original eight-part TV drama series for RAI titled MOTHERHOOD, currently in production. She is also the writer and director of her original action film DEAD ON ARRIVAL (DOA), being produced for the UK action label Action Xtreme.
