Sian Brooke is a British actress recognized for her roles as Laura in All About George, Lori in Cape Wrath, and Eurus Holmes in Sherlock. Born Sian Elizabeth Phillips in Lichfield, Staffordshire, England, she is the youngest of three siblings. To avoid confusion with actress Siân Phillips, she adopted the stage name Brooke, inspired by an English Civil War general who served at Lichfield. Her parents, both Welsh, worked as a police officer and a teacher. Brooke attended The Friary School in Lichfield and began acting at age 11 with the Lichfield Youth Theatre. She later joined the National Youth Theatre and trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, graduating in 2002.
Brooke made her acting debut as Krista in the 2002 TV series Dinotopia. Her television appearances include A Touch of Frost, Hotel Babylon, Foyle's War, and The Fixer. As a child, she appeared in Strangers in Utah alongside Adrian Dunbar and Phyllida Law. She played leading roles such as Laura in All About George and Lori Marcuse in Cape Wrath. Additionally, Brooke has voiced characters in radio dramas like Murder on the Homefront, A Pin to See the Peepshow, and Dreaming in Africa.
Her stage credits encompass Harvest, Dying City, Dido Queen of Carthage, In The Club, The Birthday Party, and Absolutely Perhaps. She has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Poor Beck, A Midsummer Night's Dream, King Lear, and Romeo and Juliet. In 2008, Brooke portrayed Dorothy Gale in The Wizard of Oz musical at the Southbank Centre, directed by Jude Kelly. In 2011, she appeared at the Almeida Theatre in London in Stephen Poliakoff's My City and Neil LaBute's Reasons to be Pretty. From August to October 2015, Brooke played Ophelia opposite Benedict Cumberbatch in the Barbican production of Hamlet.
In 2017, Brooke starred as Eurus Holmes, Sherlock Holmes' secret sister, in the fourth season of the crime drama Sherlock. Initially auditioning for multiple roles, she was later informed that all the characters were facets of Eurus, a master of disguise. Michael Hogan of The Daily Telegraph praised her performance in the season's third episode as "a star-making turn from Sian Brooke." Later that year, she appeared alongside Sheridan Smith and Gemma Whelan in the BBC miniseries The Moorside, based on the kidnapping of Shannon Matthews.
