John Pirruccello is a versatile actor who excels in a wide range of roles, from straight drama to black comedy, bringing an Everyman quality that enables him to portray a fascinating and varied set of characters on both stage and screen.
Born in San Antonio, Texas, John is the son of an Air Force fighter pilot father and a speech pathologist mother. Both of his grandfathers served as Air Force fighter pilots and World War II veterans. His paternal grandfather flew numerous missions in the B-27 Flying Fortress, while his maternal grandfather, also a test pilot, was among the first to fly the P-51 and once transported the Bell X-1 Glamorous Glennis to Edwards Air Force Base with Chuck Yeager as his co-pilot. John's father, an A-1 Sandy pilot, was killed in action during the Vietnam War. Following this, his mother relocated John and his sister to Northern Virginia to be near her parents, and later to Westminster West, Vermont, where she raised them on her own.
John earned a B.S. in Italian from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, spending his sophomore year in Siena. He began his acting career in San Francisco, supporting himself by driving a cab and working in a coffee shop while honing his improv skills in a drop-in workshop led by the late Jim Cranna of The Committee. It was during this time that he launched his voiceover career, contributing to numerous television and radio commercials, video games, cartoons, and films.
His work spans theatre, stand-up, sketch comedy, film, and television. Notable TV roles include PI Nick Stavros in HBO's Phil Spector alongside Al Pacino and Helen Mirren (2013); the corrupt Deputy Chad Broxford in Showtime's Twin Peaks: The Return (2017); rogue cop O'Grady in FX's Mayans MC (2019 and 2021); and bitter divorcé police detective John Loach in two seasons of HBO's dark comedy Barry (2018 and 2019), created by Alec Berg and Bill Hader, earning him two SAG Award nominations with the cast.
John's guest appearances include Riley's Dad in FX's offbeat series Better Things with Pamela Adlon (2019); the smarmy Stu in Hulu's mini-series Little Fires Everywhere with Reese Witherspoon (2020); and Dennis, Larry David's frugal golfing buddy, in the 11th season premiere of HBO's Emmy-winning comedy Curb Your Enthusiasm (2021).
He appears as Stegman opposite Eugenio Derbez and Samara Weaving in the Hulu comedy film The Valet (2022) and features in the Marvel series She-Hulk (2022) alongside Tatiana Maslany and Tim Roth.
