Biyografi
Marie Jamora, born and raised in Manila, Philippines, stands proudly as one of the few Filipinos in the Director's Guild of America. In her first year with the DGA, she directed episodes for Ava DuVernay's acclaimed Queen Sugar (OWN), Fire Country (CBS), The Resident (FOX), All Rise (OWN), Fantasy Island (FOX), Good Sam (CBS), GREASE: Rise of the Pink Ladies (Paramount+), and both seasons of The Cleaning Lady (FOX). Before this, the musician-director was recognized as one of "Five Visionary Asian-American Female Filmmakers" in Kore Magazine's 'New Hollywood' issue. Her short film Flip The Record was showcased at over thirty festivals worldwide, won the Grand Jury Award for "Best Narrative Short" at Urbanworld, and was submitted for the 90th Academy Awards. Her feature film, What Isn't There (Ang Nawawala), which premiered at the Slamdance Film Festival, is regarded as a cult classic coming-of-age film in the Philippines. She also serves as executive producer and director for both seasons of Family Style (HBO Max), an Asian food and pop culture series produced with Justin Lin’s YOMYOMF and Warner Bros./Stage 13.
Marie began her career directing music videos during the height of the Philippine rock scene, directing over 50 videos. After earning an MFA in Film from Columbia University, she returned to Manila to direct commercials and television. She was the director and showrunner for the first season of Project Runway Philippines (Fremantle Media) and directed the long-running multi-cam variety show Eat Bulaga! Her commercial work includes campaigns for Coca-Cola, San Miguel Beer, Colgate, and Maybelline.
After moving to Los Angeles in 2013 with a mission to elevate Filipino stories and support Philippine cinema, Marie founded Cinema Sala, a screening and workshop series dedicated to showcasing Filipinx artists in film and performing arts through programming, distribution, and education. Cinema Sala has collaborated with ARRAY, Visual Communications, Outfest, CAPE, NALIP, and AFI Fest for screenings and events featuring Filipinx works, with support from the Sundance Institute, Cinereach, and the California Arts Council.
Marie was the first Filipinx director accepted into AFI's Directing Workshop for Women, where she wrote and directed Harana, a film that competed at Bentonville, BlackStar, Urbanworld, and HollyShorts, and recently won the Grand Jury Prize for U.S. Narrative Short at the Sarasota Film Festival. She also participated in the 2020 Warner Bros. Television Directors' Workshop, the Lifetime Director Shadowing Program, and is a member of the DGA Women's Steering Committee Squad.
With nearly two decades of filmmaking and teaching experience in the Philippines, Marie is currently an Adjunct Directing Faculty member at the American Film Institute, an Advisor for Sundance Co//ab, and remains one of the few Filipinos in the Director's Guild of America.
