Sharron stars as Nurse Cheri Landry in the eagerly awaited limited series Five Days at Memorial, created by John Ridley (Twelve Years a Slave) and Carlton Cuse (LOST), premiering on Apple+. She also plays Lucy Lafontaine in the Family Channel's popular show Ruby and the Well, now in its second season. Recently, she finished filming the Disney feature Out of My Mind, the fifth season of Slasher starring Eric McCormack, and an episode of Murdoch Mysteries directed by McCormack. Additionally, she appears as Konko in Nickelodeon's Zokie and Planet Ruby.
On the creative front, Sharron is developing two scripted TV series with Shaftesbury in Toronto. The first is an original digital series co-written with Kat Sandler, based on Sharron's debut book Hello Charlie (development supported by IFP and CMF). The second is an original musical series, Follies, created with Keri Ferencz and Keavy Lynch.
Prior to these projects, Sharron was a main cast member for four successful seasons of CBC’s period crime drama Frankie Drake Mysteries, which continues to air worldwide. She received Canadian Screen Award nominations for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama in both 2019 and 2021 for her role as Flo Chakowitz. In the final season, she co-wrote the episode "Life Is a Cabaret."
Sharron is also co-creator, executive producer, screenwriter, and voice actor for Mary and Flo on the Go!, an animated series based on her and Rebecca Liddiard’s Frankie Drake Mysteries characters, streaming on Shaftesbury Kids’ YouTube channel. The series won Best Animated Content at TOWebFest 2022.
Widely recognized for her role as Joan the Secretary in Tina Fey’s iconic Mean Girls, Sharron Matthews is a versatile, award-winning Canadian artist—actress, singer, comedienne, writer, and producer.
Her stage and screen credits include working with John Travolta, Andrea Martin, and Ron Howard, and touring her acclaimed one-woman shows worldwide, from Africa to New York and Scotland. Film appearances include Cinderella Man, Take the Lead, Disney’s The Music Man, and Hairspray: The Movie. On television, she has been featured on NBC’s Taken, starred as Daphne for two seasons on She’s The Mayor, played Chef Sylvia on the multi-Emmy-winning children’s show Odd Squad, and appeared in the international award-winning ensemble Tokens. Other TV credits include Murdoch Mysteries, Hudson and Rex, The Newsroom, and Kojak. She also co-wrote, hosted, and consulted on Slice TV’s Meme gURL.
Sharron’s solo cabaret career has taken her across Canada—where she was named Best Cabaret Performer by NOW Magazine and Broadway World—and internationally. She sold out the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for three consecutive years, earning Best of the Fest out of 3,000 productions.
She has toured on a double bill with Canadian comedy legend Mary Walsh, collaborated with Gavin Crawford of CBC’s Because News on a sold-out World Pride show, debuted at Just For Laughs in Montreal, and packed Toronto’s High Park Amphitheatre with her award-winning show Girl Crush, which earned Broadway World’s Best Cabaret Performance.
Sharron has toured North America in Les Misérables and Harold Prince’s Showboat, recorded her own album Party Girl, contributed to the Showboat cast album and Disney’s The Music Man soundtrack, and sang backup on Jann Arden’s award-winning Christmas album.
Among her most cherished projects is Cabaret for Kids, developed over three years with Toronto’s Young People’s Theatre. This show addresses body positivity, childhood anxiety, bullying, and self-love, targeting children aged 9-12, and has toured across Canada. It received nominations for Outstanding New Play, Outstanding Performance, and Outstanding Production at the 2018 Dora Mavor Moore Awards.
Sharron has written essays and articles for international publications and recently completed her first book, Hello Charlie, which Shaftesbury has optioned.
She is a proud member of ACTRA, Canadian Actors’ Equity, the Writers’ Guild of Canada, and the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television.
