Originally from Los Angeles, CA, with roots in Texas, I’m often known as K.J.!
My passion for advertising started early, having starred as the lead in over fifty national commercials and promos for brands like McDonald's, Mountain Dew, Adidas, Nike, Fox Sports, PlayStation, and Subway. As I outgrew the “young guy” roles, my curiosity shifted toward understanding the deeper mechanics of advertising, leading me to explore directing and writing.
In 2010, I achieved notable success writing a modern adaptation of the urban cult classic Cooley High, which paved the way for my first feature film, "Caught on Tape" — a groundbreaking Shakespearean street hip-hop musical starring Cedric the Entertainer, Vivica A. Fox, and Bokeem Woodbine. I also wrote the urban drama "Maestro," commissioned by Mitchell Lieb, President of Motion Picture Soundtracks at Disney Pictures.
By 2012, I won "Best Music Video" for "Welcome to Summer School," marking my official transition into directing. True to my rebellious spirit, I skipped traditional film school in favor of the "School of Hard Knocks," learning directing hands-on.
This included a three-year mentorship under commercial industry titan David Shane, mastering the business before launching my own career.
My directing style draws heavily from personal experiences, especially my time gaming and repeatedly losing to kids on Fortnite and Call of Duty. This inspired my gaming channel, "The World's Worst Gamer," which is thriving. All of this fuels my ability to direct performance-driven spots, often with a distinct comedic edge. Can I get an Amen!
