Norton Herrick serves as Chairman and CEO of The Herrick Company, Inc., one of the nation's leading enterprises. His real estate investment firm has completed income property deals exceeding $5 billion, including investments in green power plants and hospitals. Herrick Entertainment, a division of the company, ventured into financing and producing major motion pictures beginning with MY ONE AND ONLY, featuring Renee Zellweger and Kevin Bacon. The company's recent entertainment projects include PRECIOUS CARGO starring Bruce Willis; the animated film WE'RE GOING ON A BEAR HUNT; 2 GUNS with Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlberg; the award-winning LONE SURVIVOR starring Mark Wahlberg; the supernatural thriller NIGHTLIGHT; and the coming-of-age drama VERY GOOD GIRLS featuring Dakota Fanning, Elizabeth Olsen, and Demi Moore. Additional films include THE DEVIL'S DOUBLE with Dominic Cooper; VANISHING ON 7TH STREET starring Hayden Christensen; MADISON featuring Jim Caviezel; and THE MOTH DIARIES, directed by Mary Harron.
Mr. Herrick also produced the Las Vegas show HAIRSPRAY at the Luxor Hotel and the stage adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's THE LORD OF THE RINGS. His Broadway productions include revivals of EXIT THE KING; Eugene O'Neill's DESIRE UNDER THE ELMS; AMERICAN BUFFALO; PROMISES, PROMISES starring Kristin Chenoweth and Sean Hayes; HAIR THE MUSICAL; and PIPPIN, for which he earned Tony Awards for Best Musical Revival. Currently, WAITRESS is running on Broadway and touring nationally, having earned a Tony nomination for Best Musical. Other productions he has produced include Dolly Parton's 9 TO 5: The Musical; BLOODY BLOODY ANDREW JACKSON; SPIDERMAN: Turn Off the Dark; and investments in the Broadway revival and touring production of WEST SIDE STORY.
Herrick TV, the television arm of Herrick Entertainment, builds on the company's success in Broadway and film by co-financing, developing, and producing television programming for both U.S. and international markets. Leveraging global creative partnerships, Herrick TV collaborates with writers worldwide to craft innovative and engaging TV shows. This creative network, combined with a strong financing track record, allows Herrick TV to develop diverse business models while maintaining high standards of creativity and quality. The division is in its second season of AMERICAN BEAUTY STAR, a 13-episode beauty competition series on A&E's Lifetime network that highlights hair and makeup artistry within the global beauty industry. BORDERLINER, co-produced with award-winning Norwegian film company Monster Scripted, Inc., is currently streaming on Netflix, adapted for U.S. audiences. Development projects include FIVE POINTS, a drama about New York's lawlessness; PLAYMAKERS, an unscripted series created with Fred Media, a top Australian production company; and BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE, a performance competition show.
With offices in Boca Raton, Florida; Cedar Knolls, New Jersey; West Hollywood, California; and Norwalk, Connecticut, The Herrick Company, under Mr. Herrick's leadership, is a major player in real estate, having completed over $5 billion in income property transactions. During the 1980s and 1990s, he built, managed, and acquired hundreds of apartment complexes across the eastern United States. Today, he is recognized as an expert in net lease real estate transactions and financing, including the structuring and funding of net lease and sale-leaseback deals involving hospitals and power plants. An affiliate of The Herrick Company has participated in financing, constructing, and owning the world's largest biomass power plant—the first of its kind in the U.S.—which generates electricity using turkey manure. The company has also engaged in projects involving ethanol plants and manufacturing facilities that produce building materials such as particleboard from rice byproducts. Mr. Herrick is known as one of the fastest builders and deal closers in the nation.
Another Herrick Company affiliate invests in thoroughbred horse racing, achieving notable success in 2011 when Animal Kingdom, trained by Graham Motion, won the Kentucky Derby and later the $10 million Dubai World Cup in 2013. Over the past decade, the company has had horses compete in the Kentucky Derby seven times, including Tapwrit, who placed sixth in 2017 and won the Belmont Stakes that year; Visionaire, who finished 12th in 2008; Went The Day Well, fourth in 2012; Danza, third in 2014; Destin, sixth and narrowly second in the 2016 Belmont Stakes; and Your Only Man, fifth in 2018.
Mr. Herrick's latest innovation is the invention and development of a device that eliminates air from IV lines under all conditions. A committed supporter of progressive and humanitarian causes, he has served on the National Board of Directors for People for the American Way, the Advisory Board of the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and the Advisory Committee of the National Multi-Housing Council. He has been honored with the Jerusalem 3000 Award, alongside President Ronald Reagan and Isaac Stern, presented by Prime Minister Shimon Peres. Additionally, he received the President's Medal from the University of Miami, awarded by President Donna E. Shalala, and The Guardian Award from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He also funded a cancer research laboratory led by renowned scientist Howard Cedar, a pioneer in DNA methylation studies that regulate gene activity.
