Gary Valentine, born Gary Joseph Knipfing in Mineola, New York, is the son of Janet, an office worker, and Joseph Valentine Knipfing, Jr., who owned an insurance agency. He is the brother of actor Kevin James and has German heritage.
Valentine began his career in entertainment as a stand-up comedian. After performing at the Montreal Comedy Festival, he moved from New York to Los Angeles to pursue more opportunities. There, he quickly secured spots on several talk shows, including The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. He has been a headliner in comedy clubs and theaters for over fifteen years.
He is best known for playing "Cousin Danny" for nine seasons on the popular CBS sitcom The King of Queens. In addition to acting, he co-wrote several episodes, which he considers his best work. On television, he also appeared on Men of a Certain Age, created and directed by Ray Romano, which received critical praise. Before that, he starred in his own half-hour special on Comedy Central and hosted The X Show on FX.
In film, Gary has shared the screen with notable actors such as Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear in Stuck on You, and Adam Sandler in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry. He has also appeared in multiple Comedy Central specials and had a cameo in Jerry Seinfeld's acclaimed documentary Comedian. His movie credits include Paul Blart: Mall Cop, Zookeeper, Poolboy: Drowning Out the Fury, and the independent short Alive 'n' Kickin.
More recently, he occasionally appears as a roundtable comedian on the E! Network's late-night talk show Chelsea Lately and participates in the Dusty Peacock web series on Crackle (crackle.com).
