Vladimir Vladimirovich Kenigson was born on November 7, 1907, in Simferopol, Russian Empire (now Simferopol, Ukraine). He studied acting at the Studio of Simferopol Drama Theatre and joined its troupe in 1925. After touring extensively across the USSR, Aleksandr Tairov invited him to join the Moscow Kamerny Theatre, where he worked from 1940 until Tairov's retirement in 1949.
From 1949 to 1986, Kenigson was a permanent member of the troupe at the Maly Academic Theatre in Moscow. There, he performed alongside notable actors such as Yelena Gogoleva, Varvara Ryzhova, Yevdokiya Turchaninova, Vera Pashennaya, Varvara Obukhova, Yelena Shatrova, Elina Bystritskaya, Boris Ravenskikh, Boris Babochkin, Mikhail Zharov, Nikolai Annenkov, Mikhail Tsaryov, Konstantin Zubov, Viktor Pavlov, Yuriy Solomin, and many others. Kenigson earned acclaim for his award-winning portrayal of Yaroslav Prus in The Makropulos Affair, based on the novel by Karel Čapek.
Vladimir Kenigson was honored as People's Artist of the USSR in 1982, received the Order of the Red Banner of Labor in 1974, and garnered various other awards for his contributions to acting. In 1973, he was awarded the Festival Prize of Czechoslovakia for his performance as Yaroslav Prus in The Makropulos Affair. Over his career, he played more than 60 stage roles and appeared in 30 film and television productions. Vladimir Kenigson passed away on November 17, 1986, in Moscow, USSR.
