Edward Bartlett Cormack was the son of Edward K. and Alice E. Cormack. By 1900, his family had relocated from Hammond, Indiana, to Chicago, where his father, who was born in Scotland, worked in sales.
Cormack is known as a playwright for works such as "The Racket," "Tampico," "The Painted Veil," and "Hey Diddle Diddle." He started his career with Maurice Browne's Little Theatre Company in Chicago and later worked as a press agent and journalist in New York City. Cormack was married to Adelaide Bledsoe, daughter of Samuel T. Bledsoe, president of the Atchison, Topeka, and Santa Fe Railroad.
