Syamsul Yusof was born on 21 May 1984 in Kuala Lumpur. He is a Malaysian actor, film director, scriptwriter, producer, rapper, and singer. The son of renowned director Yusof Haslam, Syamsul became the youngest director to win at the Malaysian Film Festival at age 26. His brother Syafiq Yusof, cousins Rizal Ashreff and Sabrina Ali, and half-brother Faizal Yusof are also actors. Both Syafiq and Faizal have careers as film directors as well. Growing up in a family that owns one of Malaysia's largest film companies, Syamsul developed a passion for directing early on. Recognizing this, his father allowed him to direct several episodes of the police drama series "Gerak Khas" as a trial. After receiving his father's approval, Syamsul gained the confidence to take on the role of director.
He went on to produce and direct his first feature film. The script for "Evolusi KL Drift," co-written with his cousin Rizal, was initially rejected by his father for revision. Once revised, the project was approved with a budget of RM 1.35 million. Despite limited directing experience and the pressure of upholding his family's reputation, "Evolusi KL Drift" was a success. This achievement opened the door for Syamsul to pursue further directing projects.
