Dubbed by Kung Fu Magazine as "the love child of Bruce Lee and Elvis Presley" (aka Brelvis), Shing Ka has dedicated his life and career to bridging the contrasting elements of Eastern and Western cultures. Mastering this delicate balance, Shing seamlessly navigates between these worlds, infusing his distinctive style into all his endeavors. From the East, he channels Bruce Lee’s philosophy and martial prowess, having studied healing arts and earned a Master's Degree in Massage Therapy (Five Element Style Energetic Shiatsu) from the Swedish Massage & Acupuncture College in Manhattan. His martial arts training includes Tiger Claw-Fujow, Southern Style Kung Fu, and Tai Chi under Grand Master Tak Wah Eng. From the West, Shing embraces his inner Elvis, honoring his traditional roots while integrating them into modern expressions.
Born in Shanghai and raised in Hong Kong before settling in New York's Chinatown, Shing’s deep cultural insight helped him portray the White Tigers gang crime boss in "The Revenge of the Green Dragons." He collaborated with acclaimed Hong Kong director Andrew Lau on the film, which was co-written and co-directed by Andrew Loo and executive produced by Martin Scorsese. The son of two physicians, Shing initially worked in real estate and later at the Shanghai Tang store on Madison Avenue, where legendary Asian performer and manager Jadin Wong discovered him. He trained at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, launching a prolific acting career with credits such as Jonathan Demme’s "The Manchurian Candidate."
Over time, Shing expanded into writing, directing, and producing. He executive produced the stage play "White Eyebrow and the Destruction of Shaolin" alongside Lyndon Brown and Alfred Rutherford; together they founded Inn-A-Circle Productions, LTD. Recently, Shing produced and acted in "Sarah Q," featuring Oscar nominees Burt Young and Sally Kirkland, as well as "Sopranos" veterans Tony Sirico and Vincent Pastore. He also produced and starred in "Made in Chinatown," a martial arts action-comedy showcasing Shaw Brothers legend Lo Mang ("Five Deadly Venoms," "Kid with the Golden Arm") and Chi Ling Chiu ("Kung-Fu Hustle"), with James Lew—Emmy-winning stunt coordinator for "Marvel's Luke Cage" and fight director for "Big Trouble in Little China" and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer"—as director and fight choreographer. Current projects include "Chinatown Horror Story," a sci-fi supernatural action-comedy co-written and produced by Shing with Alice Liu, featuring James Lew as stunt coordinator/fight director; and "Heavy Shadows," co-written and produced with Paul Mammon, set to be directed by Albert Magnoli, known for helming Prince’s film debut "Purple Rain."
Shing lives by a philosophy rooted in unwavering faith, hope, love, and dedication to one’s purpose.
